India, May 8 -- A massive fire broke out at a scrap godown in the Khairi Gram Panchayat area under Kamptee tehsil in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Thursday morning, destroying more than 500 scrap vehicles and causing losses estimated to be worth crores of rupees.
According to officials, the fire erupted around 9 am and spread rapidly across the large scrap storage facility within minutes. The flames quickly engulfed stacks of four-wheeler scrap vehicles parked inside the premises.
Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site and were visible from several kilometres away. Residents in nearby areas reported hearing repeated bursting sounds as vehicles caught fire one after another, triggering panic in the locality.
