India, May 9 -- The Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval for the first phase of the ambitious Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Transport Corridor project, estimated to cost Rs 31,793.47 crore.

The 14-lane access-controlled corridor aims to significantly improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and link major infrastructure projects, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link.

According to a government resolution issued by the Urban Development Department, the first phase of the corridor will cover a total length of 126.06 kilometres.
