India, Nov. 16 -- Nirmala Sapre, Congress legislator from Bina, may lose her Assembly membership as the Madhya Pradesh High Court is set to hear a politically significant petition on November 18. The petition, filed by Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, seeks clarity on Sapre's legislative status issue pending for nearly six months and one that has raised serious questions about the enforcement of the anti-defection law in the State.

The petition challenges Sapre's continuation as an MLA after she publicly appeared to align with the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.
