India, July 29 -- The Lok Sabha on Wednesday granted another extension to the joint parliamentary committee examining the One Nation One Election proposal, allowing it to submit its report by the first day of the last week of the Winter Session.

Committee chairman P P Chaudhary moved a resolution seeking the extension, which was approved by a voice vote.

The 41-member committee is examining the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to introduce simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The panel has been holding consultations across the country on the proposed One Nation One Election framework, which also envisages the eventual synchronisation of elections to local bodies.
