India, May 25 -- Lionel Messi has sparked an injury scare just weeks before the FIFA World Cup after being substituted during Inter Miami's Major League Soccer match against the Philadelphia Union.

The Argentine superstar was taken off in the 73rd minute at a rain-soaked venue in Miami after appearing to feel discomfort in the back of his left leg. He briefly clutched the area before requesting to be substituted, though he was seen walking normally as he left the pitch.

Inter Miami went on to win the match 6-4, but concerns quickly emerged over the fitness of the 38-year-old forward ahead of Argentina's World Cup campaign.
