India, Oct. 11 -- The sacred festival of Karva Chauth triggered a massive consumer spending surge across India on Friday.

The trade is estimated to have touched an all-time high of Rs 28,000 crore nationally. Delhi, the national Capital, accounted for an estimated Rs 8,000 crore business alone. This marks a sharp rise in festive trade compared to previous years.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) provided these business figures. Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT Secretary General, announced the estimates based on the heavy consumer rush.
