India, May 31 -- Israeli forces have captured the strategic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, marking their deepest military advance into the country in more than 26 years.

The historic fortress, located on a mountain overlooking southern Lebanon and northern Israel, was seized after intense clashes between Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters in the region.

The operation comes despite a ceasefire that began in April, with both Israel and Hezbollah repeatedly accusing each other of violating the truce.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, calling them a form of collective punishment and warning that continued violence is forcing civilians from their homes.
