India, May 15 -- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for urgent reform of global governance institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, during the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting held in New Delhi.

Speaking on Friday, Araghchi said the world is currently facing "a period of structural instability and a deep crisis of trust," arguing that existing post-World War II institutions are no longer equipped to handle 21st-century challenges.

He stressed that the current international order has failed to reflect shifting global realities, particularly the growing influence of emerging economies, and said reform was not optional but essential for restoring credibility to multilateralism.
