India, June 4 -- Indian Naval Ship (INS) Airavat was accorded a traditional welcome upon its arrival at the port of Colombo, the Sri Lankan Navy confirmed on Thursday.

The ship carried critical spare parts for the Sri Lanka Coast Guard vessel Suraksha, which were provided by the Indian Coast Guard under a Government of India grant. The assistance highlights ongoing defence and maritime cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Officials said visits by Indian Navy vessels to Sri Lanka are aimed at strengthening naval ties and enhancing regional maritime security cooperation, in line with India's "Neighbourhood First" policy and the MAHASAGAR vision, which focuses on maritime collaboration across the Indian Ocean Region.
