India, Aug. 16 -- The second day's play in the opening Test between India and Sri Lanka finally got underway here on Sunday after a delay of four and half hours due to rain .

As per the revised timings, tea will be taken at 4pm, with the day's play ending at 6pm.

The first two sessions of play were washed out due to wet outfield brought about by heavy rain, as India remained on their overnight score of 288 for two when lunch was taken.

Rain had disrupted the opening day's proceedings as well, and continued to play spoilsport for the second successive day with no play possible during the morning and afternoon sessions.

Earlier, Devdutt Padikkal had struck his maiden Test century on Saturday to put India in a commanding position.
