India, Aug. 14 -- The Himachal Pradesh government has granted remission to 433 convicted prisoners ahead of Independence Day, with three prisoners set to be released solely due to the sentence reduction, a spokesperson said on Friday.

The remission has been granted to eligible convicted prisoners under the applicable provisions of law on the occasion of 80th Independence Day.

Of the 1,025 convicted prisoners lodged in various jails across Himachal Pradesh, 433 with good conduct were found eligible for sentence reduction through the remission.

The spokesperson said three convicted prisoners would be released solely on account of the remission granted on Independence Day.
