India, Oct. 23 -- With an eye on the Bihar elections, the Delhi Government on Wednesday announced a one-and-a-half-day holiday for Chhath Puja. A notification to this effect is likely to be issued in a day or two.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is one of the key campaigners for the electioneering in Bihar, and the move is expected to go down well with the sizable Purvanchalis residing in the city who also visit their home State for the Chhath celebrations. It is estimated that 30-40 lakh people from Bihar and UP reside in Delhi.

While half day holiday is marked for October 27 when the devotees pay obessaince to the setting sun and full day leave is being the next day when the rising sun is worshipped.
