India, May 20 -- Senior leader and Ambalappuzha MLA G Sudhakaran was sworn in as the pro tem Speaker of the 16th Kerala Assembly, marking the formal beginning of proceedings for the newly elected House.

The oath of office was administered by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar during a brief ceremony held at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday morning. The event was attended by Chief Minister VD Satheesan and several senior ministers.

As pro tem Speaker, Sudhakaran will administer the oath to newly elected MLAs on Thursday and will preside over the Assembly proceedings until the election of the full-time Speaker on Friday.
