India, Aug. 23 -- Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested on Friday on charges of misusing State funds, becoming the first former head of State in the country to be detained on such allegations, police confirmed.Wickremesinghe, 76, was taken into custody by the Financial Crimes Investigations Department (FCID) at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Colombo and was later produced before a magistrate's court. According to his aide, Danushka Ramanayake, the arrest is linked to a probe into public funds allegedly spent on a private trip to the United Kingdom in September 2023.
