India, Sept. 9 -- Rakesh Mehta, former Chief Secretary of Delhi and a senior 1975-batch IAS officer, died by suicide at his flat in Noida's Sector 82 on Tuesday. The police recovered a suicide note from the scene, officials said.

The 75-year-old's body was found hanging inside his flat at Kendriya Vihar-2 Society. Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination, while investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to reports, Mehta's wife, Sumanti Mehta, also a retired IAS officer, had travelled to Dehradun to meet their son. On Saturday, she attempted to call her husband multiple times, but the calls went unanswered. Growing concerned, she returned to Noida.
