India, May 12 -- An Etihad Airways flight carrying nearly 280 passengers from Chennai to Abu Dhabi was cancelled on Tuesday after a fire was detected on the aircraft's left wing during take-off preparations at Chennai airport.

According to airport officials, the aircraft was preparing for departure when the pilots noticed flames on the wing and immediately aborted the take-off process as a precautionary measure.

All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft and no injuries were reported in the incident.

Fire service personnel rushed to the spot shortly after the alert and managed to quickly extinguish the blaze on the aircraft's wing, officials said.
