India, May 30 -- Congress leader DK Shivakumar was formally elected as the leader of the Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) during a key meeting held in Bengaluru on Saturday, clearing the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. His name was proposed during the meeting and received unanimous support from party legislators and senior leaders.

The leadership transition comes after Siddaramaiah stepped down as Chief Minister following the Congress high command's decision.
