India, July 24 -- Delhi Police have deployed four facial recognition system (FRS) units around the Jantar Mantar protest site to identify wanted criminals, absconders and historysheeters, claims police sources.

The surveillance system is not meant to target ordinary protesters but to identify people with criminal antecedents who may try to "infiltrate the protest" and disturb law and order, they said.

The FRS units have been installed at key entry and exit points around the protest venue and are directly linked to the Delhi Police database.

The system is monitored in real time, allowing officers to verify the identities of wanted criminals, absconders, historysheeters and "bad characters" whose details are available in police records, ...
