India, May 22 -- A suspected dowry death case in Delhi has sparked outrage after the family of 25-year-old Veena Kumari alleged that she faced years of physical and mental abuse at her matrimonial home.

The case gained attention after family members revealed details of her final distress call and claimed she had repeatedly suffered violence over dowry demands.

According to reports, Veena allegedly called her family shortly before her death, crying and asking for help. Her sister claimed that Veena said she was being beaten and feared for her life.

The call reportedly disconnected moments later, after which the family was informed that she had fallen from the rooftop of her in-laws' house.
