India, Sept. 22 -- Maharashtra Congress MLA Nitin Raut on Monday said the development and modernisation of Nagpur's Deekshabhoomi must strictly adhere to UNESCO World Heritage standards, while ensuring that the historic character of its main stupa is preserved.

Raut made the remarks after a meeting on the proposed development of Deekshabhoomi was held at the District Planning Bhavan under the chairmanship of Nagpur district Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Deekshabhoomi project architect Sandeep Kamble also met Raut and made a detailed presentation on the proposed development plan, according to a release issued by the MLA.
