India, Aug. 5 -- A Congress functionary was stabbed to death by unidentified persons while allegedly resisting a robbery in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place around 2 am on Monday near Chikhli village on the Durg-Dhamdha road, an official said. He said that the victim, Prakash Singh Kashyap (45), a treasurer of the Congress's local unit, was travelling to his house in Tumkala village with two of his associates on a motorcycle when four assailants intercepted them.

They threatened the trio with a knife and robbed Kashyap of his mobile phone and '4,000 in cash, the official said.
