India, July 19 -- The last rites of Chennamma Deve Gowda, wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, were performed with full state honours at the foothills of Ranganathaswamy Betta in Mavinakere, Hassan district, on Sunday. Family members, political leaders and hundreds of supporters gathered to pay their final respects.

Chennamma passed away on Saturday in Bengaluru after a prolonged illness. Her mortal remains were kept at the family's residence in Bengaluru before being taken to her native Haradanahalli in Hassan district, where people from across the state paid homage.

The funeral was attended by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, senior members of the Janata Dal (Secular), political leaders...
