India, June 18 -- 2 accused in the murder of a chemist shop cashier in Chandigarh's Sector 11 were injured after a police encounter during an alleged escape attempt, officials said on Thursday.

According to police sources, the accused were being transported from Jammu and Kashmir to Chandigarh after their arrest when they allegedly tried to flee near the Dhanas forest area. In response, escorting police personnel opened fire, injuring both suspects.

The accused have been identified as Aryan and Sunny Mehra, who were earlier arrested in connection with the June 13 shooting incident at Shri Kumar Medical Hall that left a cashier dead. The encounter took place during their transit under police custody, officials said.
