India, May 14 -- The Bar Council of India (BCI) has sought a detailed report from the West Bengal Bar Council regarding the enrolment and practice status of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, following her appearance before the Calcutta High Court in a lawyer's attire.

In a communication issued on Thursday, the BCI directed the state Bar Council to submit complete records within 48 hours related to Banerjee's enrolment as an advocate, along with details of her practice status during and after her tenure as Chief Minister from 2011 to 2026.
