Army builds footbridge to restore Siliguri-Mirik link
India, June 25 -- Responding to a requisition from District Administration, Indian Army established a 34-metre footbridge across the Balason River at Dudhia, restoring vital connectivity between Siliguri and Mirik and facilitating access to border crossing points such as Pashupati Phatak.
The intervention became necessary after the existing bridge was washed away due to incessant rains, disrupting movement across the river and causing inconvenience to local residents, commuters and travellers.
The newly established footbridge will enable safe pedestrian movement. Based on the same requisition, the Army is also working towards launching a wider Bailey Bridge in the near future, which will allow vehicular traffic to pass through. This wil...
