India, June 20 -- Fresh Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have cast a shadow over ongoing efforts to secure a lasting peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The attacks came despite a recently announced ceasefire and ahead of high-level talks in Switzerland aimed at turning a temporary truce into a long-term settlement.

US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to hold discussions focused on extending the current agreement, which includes a halt in military operations, sanctions relief measures and steps to stabilise the region. However, renewed violence along the Israel-Lebanon border has raised concerns over the future of the negotiations.
