India, May 8 -- A staff member of a private school in Delhi's Janakpuri area has been accused of raping a three-year-old girl during school hours, police said on Friday.

The incident came to light on May 1 after the child's mother lodged a complaint at the Janakpuri police station alleging that her daughter was sexually assaulted by a school staff member inside the school premises.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with punishment for rape, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to police, the child was able to identify the accused, which led to his immediate arrest.
