India, May 26 -- At least 23 people were rescued after a fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in Delhi's Rohini area on Tuesday morning, officials said.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call regarding the blaze was received at 7.06 am from a building located on Shamshan Ghat Road in Vijay Vihar Phase-2.

Officials said the fire started on the ground floor of the building, where 18 electricity meters and six vehicles - including three scooties, two motorcycles and one bicycle - were engulfed in flames.

The blaze quickly spread thick smoke throughout the building, trapping several residents inside their homes and balconies and triggering panic among occupants.
