India, June 23 -- At least 2 people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus overturned in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Monday, triggering protests by local residents over the poor condition of roads in the area.

According to officials, the bus lost control and overturned while travelling through a damaged stretch of road. Emergency services rushed to the spot and shifted the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The accident sparked anger among local residents, who blocked roads and staged demonstrations, alleging that repeated complaints about the deteriorating road condition had gone unaddressed by authorities.
