Visayas power shortage spurs push to fast-track 3 energy projects
Manila, Sept. 9 -- Iloilo City is urging the national government to fast-track regulatory approvals for three energy projects in Western Visayas as the region grapples with power supply shortages.
Mayor Raisa Trenas said Tuesday that two of the projects are planned in Iloilo City and one in Guimaras. She said the projects are expected to add generation capacity and improve the region's power supply reliability.
Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) has committed additional generation capacity targeted for operation by 2028, Trenas said.
MORE Power Barge has committed a 40-megawatt power barge in Guimaras, with operations targeted to begin in the first quarter of 2027. PH Natural Gas is also expected to invest in Iloilo City, she said....
