Manila, Sept. 23 -- A yellow alert remained in effect in the Visayas grid on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. as several power plants remained unavailable.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), in an advisory, said the grid's available capacity is around 2,607 megawatts (MW), short of meeting contingency requirements as peak demand is forecast to reach 2,418 MW.

This, as Unit 1 of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI), Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC), and Unit 2 of Kepco SPC Power Corporation (KSPC) remain on forced outage.

The NGCP said generating units of 12 power plants are unavailable this September alone, while 19 others are on forced outage as far back as 2021.
