Visayas grid under yellow alert anew Thursday
Manila, May 28 -- The tripping of Unit 2 of the 103-megawatt (MW) coal-fired KEPCO SPC Power Corp. (KSPC) has added to the loss of capacity in the Visayas grid, resulting in another yellow alert status from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), in an advisory, said capacity is already thin given the forced outage of Units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI), and Unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC).
It said the grid's available capacity is about 2,532 MW while peak demand is projected to reach 2,388 MW.
The NGCP issues a yellow alert status when a grid's operating market is inadequate to meet contingency requirements.
