Manila, Aug. 17 -- The continued forced outage of a major coal-fired power plant and lower electricity imports from Mindanao again resulted in a red alert status for the Visayas grid on Monday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said a yellow alert is also up for the grid between 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This came as available capacity is around 2,334 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is expected to reach 2,413MW.

NGCP said Units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) remain on forced outage and capacity import from Mindanao remains affected by the unavailability of several coal-power plants and the high demand.
