Manila, Aug. 5 -- The Senate on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Alex Eala for becoming the first Filipino to win a Women's Tennis Association Tour-level singles championship, turning her historic triumph into both a celebration of national pride and a rally for stronger sports development.

The Chamber adopted Proposed Senate Resolution No. 554, taking into consideration 36 related resolutions, congratulating and commending Eala for winning the 2026 Mubadala DC Open women's singles championship.

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said Eala's breakthrough proved that Filipino athletes could prevail against the world's best through sustained training, persistence, and commitment to excellence.
