Manila, Oct. 1 -- The Supreme Court (SC) en banc, voting 11-3 with one abstention, has directed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to hold the parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) not later than March 31, 2026.

In a decision dated Sept. 30, the SC declared as unconstitutional Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) No. 58 and BAA No. 77 passed by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), which created and reconstituted parliamentary districts in the region.

The tribunal likewise asked the BTA for a replacement for the two laws on outlining BARMM's legislative districts by the end of the month.
