Manila, Oct. 27 -- The Supreme Court (SC) en Banc has approved the Rules on Extradition Proceedings to make extradition proceedings consistent, clear, and efficient, including applications for warrants of arrest, hold departure orders, and bail.
Extradition means the removal of the extraditee from the Philippines to place them at the disposal of a requesting foreign authority to hold them in connection with a criminal investigation directed against them, or for the execution of a penalty under the penal or criminal law of the requesting state.
Extradition proceedings are conducted to verify whether the request complies with applicable laws and treaties, and to assess if the individual is extraditable.
