LAOAG CITY, June 16 -- Aqua farmers in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, on Tuesday conducted a partial emergency harvest of bangus (milkfish) in cages due to sudden weather changes.

Municipal agriculturist Ridel Cabulisan reported that about 30 fisherfolk in Sitio Minanga, Barangay Namuac are affected by an emergency harvest due to oxygen deficiency in the Pata River. Some 31,000 kilos of bangus need to be harvested quickly to prevent fish kills.

Sanchez Mila Mayor Abraham Bagasin quickly coordinated with the League of Mayors of the Philippines-Cagayan Chapter and the Cagayan provincial government to help dispose of their fresh harvest and minimize losses.
