Manila, Feb. 11 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday warned single Filipinos seeking love this Valentine's Day against falling victim to "love scams."
The PNP issued the warning after it recorded six cases of love scams from Jan. 1 to Feb. 5.
"Scammers take advantage of loneliness, trust, and hope, especially online," PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
"We want the public to enjoy Valentine's Day safely, without becoming victims of deception."
The PNP recorded 54 cases of love scams in 2025 and 75 cases in 2024.
The scam usually starts with an online contact, with perpetrators posing as foreigners or overseas Filipino workers.
