Manila, June 30 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all its units nationwide under full alert status following a surprise protest by members of the religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) at the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Tuesday.

"The chief PNP (Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.) has ordered all our police units nationwide to be on full alert status. It is to prevent any untoward incident sa lahat ng areas natin (in all areas) within the country," PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said during a press briefing.

Aside from the one at the People Power Monument, police also monitored smaller gatherings at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila, Greenhills in San Juan and Mandaluyong City.
