Manila, Oct. 10 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has immediately activated its emergency response units after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Friday.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the decision was in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that the government is assessing the situation on the ground and ensuring public safety.

Nartatez said PNP units in Davao Oriental and nearby provinces were quickly mobilized to assist affected communities, maintain public safety and coordinate with local authorities.
