Manila, April 27 -- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) is ramping up hazard communication efforts in the Bicol Region amid ongoing volcanic activity in Albay and Sorsogon.

On Wednesday, Phivolcs will hold a seminar-workshop in Naga City to train media practitioners and public information officers to better communicate science-based information on volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis.

Phivolcs Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said the program, "InfoPress: Understanding and Communicating Geologic Hazards Information in Region V," aims to promote responsible science communication, improve public awareness and support disaster risk reduction.
