Manila, June 29 -- The Philippines has expressed grave concern over recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and reported attacks in the Middle East, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday.

The agency made the statement following strikes on two ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, an event that prompted the United States to strike Iran.

According to news reports, the strikes could mean that the Middle East ceasefire that forms part of a June 17 memorandum of understanding between the two countries might be nearing a threshold.

The DFA called on all parties involved in the region to prioritize diplomacy and prevent the escalation of hostilities.
