Manila, Oct. 27 -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago and appointed Assistant Director Lito Magno as the agency's officer-in-charge (OIC).

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the development to reporters in a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Santiago sent his resignation letter to the Palace in August, citing that there are "detractors and those who have a sinister interest in my position incessantly make moves to blemish my reputation."

Marcos appointed Santiago as NBI chief in June 2024.
