Manila, Aug. 21 -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday called on Filipinos to draw inspiration from the late senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.'s courage and convictions by strengthening national unity and taking an active role in the country's democratic journey.

In his Ninoy Aquino Day message, Marcos said the occasion serves as an opportunity to remember the past and face present challenges with resolve to protect the country's independence and strengthen our institutions.

"Ninoy Aquino Day, therefore, invites us to acknowledge the past and draw from it the resolve needed to safeguard freedom, strengthen our institutions, and deepen national unity," he said.
