Manila, Aug. 4 -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a Taiwanese national who was found to be illegally staying in the country after he figured in a hit-and-run incident in Marikina City recently.

In a statement Tuesday, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the 34-year-old suspect Su Ping-Yen was taken into the bureau's custody following coordination with the Marikina City Police Station and the Eastern Police District on July 29.

At 5 a.m. on the same day, the foreigner was involved in a traffic incident along Lilac Street corner Panorama Street in Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City, where he allegedly struck a 62-year-old Filipino pedestrian who was crossing a designated pedestrian lane.
