Manila, June 8 -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday logged reports of "major damage in various infrastructure" following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Maasim, Sarangani, and nearby provinces.

"There are reports of major damage in various infrastructure. Electricity and communications are affected as well. Evacuation is also ongoing in affected coastal areas," the agency said in its initial update to reporters.

The OCD also said most of the affected areas are in Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The agency is also verifying reports of casualties.
