Manila, Sept. 25 -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) called on the public to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions ahead of the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name Bualoi).

"We are again facing a new weather disturbance. Severe Tropical Storm Opong is bringing heavy rainfall and enhancing the southwest monsoon. These rains are continuous and may cause renewed flooding and landslides, especially in areas that are already saturated. Other hazards may also occur. Again, we ask everyone to heed warnings and advisories from authorities, remain alert, and ensure household safety measures are in place," OCD administrator Undersecretary Harold Cabreros said in a statement Wednesday night.
