Manila, Nov. 8 -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) has been placed on heightened alert in anticipation of Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong), which continues to intensify as it moves toward Luzon.

Under the directive of Nolcom Commander Lt. Gen. Aristotle Gonzalez, all joint task forces and subordinate units have completed a full accounting of their search, rescue and retrieval teams and have prepositioned key assets in strategic locations across Northern and Central Luzon.

The proactive measures are part of Nolcom's commitment to ensure swift humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations once the typhoon affects its areas of responsibility.
