Manila, Sept. 25 -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is seeking for a mandatory policy to track all installed rooftop solar systems, warning that unrecorded installations threaten grid stability.

During a media forum here on Thursday, NGCP officials said the grid operator remains "blind" to the true scale of private solar adoption.

"If there are enough solar installations that NGCP does not know about and there is a sudden cloud cover, it's as if a large plant connected to the grid falls and the NGCP has to manage," said Cynthia Perez-Alabanza, NGCP assistant vice president and head of public relations.

Alabanza said sudden weather shifts can cause sharp drops in power generation, complicating load management.
