Manila, Jan. 22 -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Valenzuela City government have begun the cleanup of Kalabingkoho River aimed at reducing flooding in the National Capital Region through the clearing of garbage and silt from waterways.

MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III and Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Gatchalian led the cleanup on Thursday in Barangay Malanday with support from the MMDA Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office.

The cleanup in the approximately 2-kilometer stretch of the river is part of the MMDA's "Bayanihan sa Estero (Bayanihan)" program launched by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. towards improving water flow and mitigating flooding in communities.
